Hello, my name is Stanley (Skip) Stone and I am a Master Addiction Counselor. I started on my road to sobriety on the 29th of November 2002 when I consumed my final drink, while on Thanksgiving vacation with my family in San Diego, California. Although I had not used drugs in 15 years, I continued to consume alcohol to a point where my life and my family’s lives were being greatly affected. Upon returning from vacation, I arrived home for lunch on Monday to find my wife, my son, my sister, and my lawyer who had already been sober five years, waiting for me.
The intervention was on and it was explained to me that I was either going to treatment or I was just going. After using mood altering substances for almost 40 years, I was sick and tired so I agreed to treatment. I entered Hazelden on December 3rd 2002. After completing 28 days of treatment I returned home with an aftercare plan and I followed it. I went to meetings and worked the 12 steps of Alcoholic Anonymous, and got therapeutic help.
After two and one half years, I found the company that I had founded was not where I wanted it to be, so at my wife’s suggestion I looked at the Masters program in drug and alcohol treatment at Hazelden. I moved to Minnesota and earned my Masters in Addiction Counseling, and worked at Hazelden for a year. I went to work at Addiction Intervention Resources in St. Paul, Minnesota, conducting assessments, interventions, and case management work.
Since 2006 I have worked independently with clients and their families, specializing in addiction assessments, education, interventions, consulting, and case management.
Addiction is a complex and insidious disease that impacts the addict and everyone connected to them. I have lived this journey, and work my recovery on a daily basis. With my unique personal perspective I am able to deeply empathize with clients and their families; offer guidance, and a strategic and workable plan for those who are ready, or those who want to explore options and alternatives to their current path. There is always hope. I look forward to connecting with you.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
